Formed in 2022 and already moving with the assurance of a band far beyond its years, Hanry stands at the confluence of atmosphere and impact, restraint and eruption. Signed to Pelagic Records, Hanry return with ‘What Came From Silence‘, their first full-length album that captures the band at a decisive moment in their evolution. Their performance at the legendary Trans Musicales in Rennes, broadcast nationally to an audience of thousands, marked a defining moment, and the forthcoming live session with KEXP signals Hanry’s international ascent

Pelagic Records are proud to announce Hanry’s new album ‘What Came From Silence‘, a cinematic journey that is all at once introspective, soaring and meticulously curated. Hanry transform restraint into resonance, and ‘What Came From Silence‘ is an album that invites immersion; it begins in stillness and slowly, inexorably, unfolds into something vast and luminous

“The album was written during a particularly long and harsh winter in Brittany, and that atmosphere can probably be felt throughout the record. There’s a certain tension mixed with deep introspection that runs through it.“ (Hanry)

Sonically, the album deepens Hanry’s exploration of contrast. Clean guitar tones shimmer with crystalline precision, only to dissolve into waves of saturated distortion. Ambient passages feel suspended in time, yet the band resists drifting into passivity. Even at their most delicate, there is motion; subtle pulses and evolving textures that suggest forward momentum. When the band unleashes its full force, the sound remains articulate; each instrument retains its identity within the surge.

“Since the beginning of Hanry, cinematic imagery has been at the core of our artistic vision. We often compose from mental images, landscapes or scenes that could almost belong to a film.

We also wanted to play with variations in intensity and mood so that the album can be experienced as a whole, almost like a single continuous piece. The idea is for the listener to fully immerse themselves and project their own emotions into it.“ (Hanry)

At the core of Hanry’s sound lies a rare equilibrium: three guitars interweave with cinematic patience in total service to the music. Their approach is architectural. One guitar sketches a fragile harmonic outline in shimmering harmonics while another introduces a low-register motif, thick with delay and subtle overdrive. The third often acts as a destabilizing force, introducing textural noise, fragments that hover between melody and abstraction. Together, they construct sonic spaces that are felt environments.

Additional bass anchors these vast arrangements with a tone that is both grounded and melodic, acting as counter-melodies, pulling the harmonic center into unexpected emotional territory. Cello deepens the emotional register. Its timbre bridges the gap between the digital and the physical, sometimes reinforcing melodic lines, at other times introducing a mournful counterpoint that intensifies the music’s sense of longing.

“The main new element on this album is our collaboration with the pianist Mariposa, who worked with us on the track Phantom Rush. His sensitivity and musical depth brought a new dimension to the piece. He took the composition into a space we likely would not have explored on our own, adding both emotional intensity and richness to the track.“ (Hanry)

Throughout the record drums embody the band’s philosophy of tension and release. Working with dynamic gradients, cymbals, tom rippling patterns, and crescendos arrive as earned tectonic shifts. This sense of space is crucial: silence is never empty in Hanry’s music; it is charged, anticipatory.

Completing the ensemble, keys lend the band its atmospheric depth. Whether through analog synth pads that shimmer at the edge of audibility or piano figures that echo like half-remembered dreams, textures act as connective tissue. In quieter passages it becomes almost imperceptible. In climactic moments, it expands into widescreen orchestration, amplifying the emotional weight.

“Writing a full-length album gave us the opportunity to create a cohesive body of work and to explore our musical universe in much greater depth than with an EP. We fully embraced our electronica and ambient side while keeping the powerful and epic energy that defines Hanry.

We also imposed certain technical constraints on ourselves, particularly in the choice of machines and synthesizers, in order to maintain a strong sonic thread and give the album a clear identity. Most of the tracks actually started from an electronic ambient texture, which we then gradually developed and built around.“ (Hanry)

Hanry value texture, patience, and emotional resonance over immediacy. There is a clarity in their arrangements, a refusal to clutter that gives their crescendos a startling transparency. Echoes of European post-rock’s textural patience, hints of ambient minimalism, their compositions work as emotional topographies, an interplay between density and openness.

“Since the EP Disruption, we have found a working method that truly suits us. The compositions first emerge from a core trio, Anthony (bass/guitar), Marc (keyboards), and J.A (guitar) before moving into the recording phase with the full band in our own studio. J.A and Clément (drums) are, both sound engineers, allowing us to produce and mix our music ourselves. This autonomy is essential for us, as it ensures that the artistic intention remains intact throughout the entire process.“ (Hanry)

‘What Came From Silence‘ is a meditation on emergence, on how resonance is born from restraint, how sound gathers weight from quiet beginnings. With five musicians operating in near-telepathic cohesion, Hanry craft music that feels expansive yet deeply human; distinguishing themselves through calculated nuance.

“We are now very eager to bring this album to the stage. Live performance is at the core of our project, that’s where our music truly comes to life. We can’t wait to share these new songs with audiences, feel their energy, and discover what emotions the music evokes for them. In the long term, we would also love to collaborate with film or series directors and compose original soundtracks, following the path of bands like Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky, who are major inspirations for us.“ (Hanry)

The balance between electronic experimentation, post-rock grandeur, and cinematic subtlety feels more assured and cohesive than ever before. Hanry leave space for interpretation, allowing each listener to inhabit the music in their own way..

“As an instrumental band, we deliberately leave space for interpretation. Each member of the band and each listener, can project their own emotions onto the music. That said, this album marks an important milestone for us. We feel that we have finally found our true sound. We fully embraced the diverse influences and sensibilities of each member, resulting in something more cohesive and more defined than ever before.“ (Hanry)
